Becoming a Waitomo District Library Member

Library membership is free to all residents and ratepayers of the Waitomo District. However, there is a $1 charge for the cost of the Library Card, payable at the time of joining. Click here to view Library Fees and Charges.

At the time of joining, you must present personal identification showing your name and signature, and present a letter detailing your current residential address.

Membership Conditions

These conditions are in place to ensure the efficient management of Library membership. It is important that you read these in order to understand our approach. Children and young people, under the age of 18, require a parent or guardian to act as guarantor. Guarantors must agree to take responsibility for, and to pay upon demand, all charges incurred as a result of the borrowers' failure to meet such obligations. The parent or guardian, on behalf of the child, must fill out a Membership Application Form and sign it in front of a Librarian. Satisfactory personal identification with signature includes a:

  • NZ Driver's License
  • Credit or EFTPOS card with a embossed name
  • Community Services Card
  • Passport
  • ID card with photo, eg. student or business identification

Satisfactory proof of address includes a:

  • Current phone/power account or other official current document
  • Rates assessment
  • House purchase or tenancy agreement
  • Current bank statement

You must present your Library Card each time you borrow an item. Members are personally responsible for their Library Card and the items borrowed on it.

Remember, it is important to let us know immediately if your contact details change, or the card is lost or stolen. Please do not let others borrow your card - you remain responsible for all charges incurred.

The staff of Waitomo District Library, Waitomo District Council and agencies operating on behalf of Waitomo District Council will have access to your personal information. This includes debt collection agencies operating on behalf of Waitomo District Council.
