Triennial Elections 2019

The next triennial local body elections will be held in 2019.

Subject to the final determination of any current representation reviews, elections will be held for:

  • 1 Mayor
  • 3 councillors to represent the Te Kuiti Urban Ward
  • 3 councillors to represent the Waitomo Rural Ward


  • 1 member to represent the Nga Tai ki Uta Maori Constituency of the Waikato Regional Council
  • 2 members to represent the Waipa-King Country Constituency of the Waikato Regional Council
  • 1 member to represent the Ruapehu Constituency of the Horizons Regional Council
  • 7 members to represent the Waikato District Health Board



The information sessions will be held on the following dates, at the WDC Office on Queen Street, Te Kuiti:

  • 12 July 2019 at 7am: Meet the Chief Executive Officer and learn more about being a councillor or mayor.
  • 18 July 2019 at 6pm: Workshop with the Electoral Officer to learn more about the nomination and election processes and the roles of council and elected members.

Voter packs mailed to electors. Voting opens

If you are enrolled as a parliamentary elector you will automatically be placed on council’s electoral roll as a residential elector. If you need to enrol or update existing name or address details on the parliamentary electoral roll, you can do so at any Post Shop, online at or by phoning 0800 36 76 56.

If you pay rates on property within the council area but live outside that area you may be eligible to enrol as a ratepayer elector. A copy of the ratepayer enrolment form can be downloaded here (PDF, 102 Kb).
