Opening hours and services over Christmas and New Year

These are the holiday hours for Council services and facilities during the Christmas / New Year period.  If you would like more information please phone the listed numbers.

 

WAITOMO DISTRICT COUNCIL CUSTOMER SERVICES 

Queen Street Te Kuiti. Our office will be closed from midday Friday 22 December and will re-open at 8am on Wednesday 3 January 2018. 

If you need to contact WDC at any time, you can call 0800 WDC HELP (0800 932 4357). This is a 24/7 service. ​

 

 

 

ANIMAL AND NOISE CONTROL

Regulatory services, like animal control and noise control, will be available and can be contacted through the regular after hours phone 0800 932 4357.  Note: Dogs are prohibited from part of the Mokau beach between 1 December 2017 and 31 March 2018. See Schedule 1 of the Dog Control Bylaw.

FIRE PERMITS

To apply for a fire permit please phone 0800 932 4357. Permits should be applied for at least five working days in advance of the planned fire. 

TE KUITI VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE I-SITE

Closed from midday Friday 22 December to Tuesday 26 December. Open Wednesday 27 December to Friday 29 December 9am to 5pm.  Open Saturday 30 December 10am to 2pm. Closed Sunday 31 December. Open Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 January 2018 10am to 2pm. Normal working hours resume from 3 January 2018, 9am-5pm.

WAITOMO DISTRICT AQUATIC CENTRE

11 Hinerangi Street, Te Kuiti. Ph (07) 878 8803. 

Opening Friday 22 December to Sunday 7 January 2018. Monday 6am-7.30pm, Tuesday 9am-7.30pm, Wednesday 6am-7.30pm, Thursday 12noon-7pm, Friday 6am-7pm, Saturday 1pm-5pm, Sunday 1pm-5pm. The Aquatic Centre is closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  Open on Boxing Day and Tuesday 2 January 2018 from 1pm - 5pm.

Closed from midday Friday 22 December to Tuesday 26 December. Open Wednesday 27 December to Friday 29 December 9.30am to 12.30pm. Closed Saturday 30 December to Tuesday 2 January 2018. Normal working hours resume from Wednesday 3 January 2018, 10am-5pm.

WAITOMO DISTRICT LANDFILL

43 William Street, Te Kuiti Ph: (07) 878 5230

Transfer station, free recycling facilities for paper/cardboard, glass bottles green, clear and brown, and plastic (types 1 and 2), and tin and aluminium cans. The Landfill is open Wednesday to Sunday 9am-4pm. 

RURAL WASTE TRANSFER STATIONS 

All rural transfer stations will be CLOSED on Monday 25 December 2017 and Monday 1 January 2018. 

MAROKOPA TRANSFER STATION

Normal opening hours are Monday and Friday 9am-1pm, Saturday 8am-12noon, and Sunday 10am - 2pm.

Extended hours for the holiday period: Wednesdays 20 and 27 December and 3 January 2018, 9am-1pm. Friday 22 and Friday 29 December and 5 January 2018, 9am-5pm. Saturday 23 and 30  December, and 6 January 2018 8am-5pm. Sunday 24 and 31 December, and 7 January 2018 8am-5pm. Open Monday 8 January 9am-1pm.

Please use the recycle bin next to the Transfer Station to deposit recycling outside of opening hours.

KINOHAKU TRANSFER STATION

Normal opening hours are Monday 9am-1pm, and Sunday 12noon-4pm.

AWAKINO/MOKAU AND BENNEYDALE TRANSFER STATIONS

Normal opening hours are Monday and Wednesday 9am-1pm, Saturday 8am-12 noon, and Sunday 1pm-5pm as per normal. 

PIOPIO TRANSFER STATION

Normal opening hours are Monday 8.30am-4.30pm. Wednesday 9am-1pm, Saturday 8am-12 noon, and Sunday 1pm-5pm.

KERBSIDE REFUSE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION SERVICE

Collection Service takes place on the following days: Tuesday - Mokau/Awakino, Waitomo Rural Ward/Piopio. Friday - Te Kuiti.

Place blue bags and green bin on kerbside by 8am on collection day. 

CHRISTMAS WEEK: Mokau, Awakino, Piopio and Waitomo - collection day takes place a day later on Wednesday 27 December.  Te Kuiti collection takes place a day later on Saturday 30 December.

NEW YEARS WEEK: Mokau, Awakino, Piopio and Waitomo collection day takes place a day later on Wednesday 3 January 2018. Te Kuiti collection takes place on Saturday 6 January 2018.

WDC rubbish bags can be purchased from District Transfer Stations, Te Kuiti New World, Te Kuiti SuperValue, Waitomo Caves Visitor Information Centre, Piopio Superette, Benneydale Food Store, Whitebait Inn Mokau, Junction Service Station Awakino, Patels Mini Market, and Mokau Museum.
