Where are we in the process
The development and informal consultation part of the District Plan review is being undertaken in three stages:
Over the past two and a half years, WDC has focused our efforts on gathering information. This has included talking with central and regional government about the major topics in the District Plan. We have also had conversations with community groups, mana whenua, landowners, interest groups and some industry groups. The feedback helped us to identify significant land use issues.
|Some of the things WDC considered were the identification and management of natural hazards, how we will protect our critically important significant natural areas, and how we might provide for different landscapes and special features in our district.|
During stage 2, WDC has worked on drafting the provisions of the plan. These are the rules, zones, policies and objectives. Where possible we have shared our ideas for the new District Plan with you.
For example, you can see the zoning currently proposed for your property here.
WDC are now analysing the policies and rules to make sure that they are effective and efficient in order to prepare the final version of the “Proposed Waitomo District Plan”.
|Each chapter is being presented to the Council for their consideration and when they are satisfied, the formal process can begin. The formal process commences with notification of the Proposed Waitomo District Plan this year and the opportunity for the public to make written submissions.|
