TechStep Careers Expo

About TechStep – Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators

TechStep is an annual hands-on technology event designed to inspire and connect rangatahi with the world of innovation, digital careers, and future-focused learning. Coordinated by the Waitomo District Council, TechStep brings together schools, industry partners, and education providers for an immersive, interactive experience.

The event gives students the chance to explore a wide range of technology pathways — from IT and communications to gaming, robotics, web development, and digital design. Through practical workshops, exhibitor demonstrations, and inspiring keynote sessions, participants engage directly with professionals who are shaping the future of technology.

Each year, hundreds of students from across the region attend TechStep, supported by teachers and community partners. They gain first-hand insight into career opportunities, meet local employers, and discover how technology is transforming the industries around them.

Feedback from past attendees highlights the value of the event in sparking curiosity and confidence among young people:

“It was a fantastic opportunity to explore the diverse and exciting world of technology. Students learned first-hand about the wide array of career pathways available within the tech sector and gained insight from those at the forefront of innovation.”

TechStep is more than an expo — it’s a community collaboration dedicated to empowering the next generation of creators, problem-solvers, and innovators.
