Motakiora/Brook Park top section closed until further notice
For health and safety reasons, Waitomo District Council has closed the top section of Motakiora/ Brook Park for ALL recreational use until further notice.
As a result of the weekend’s heavy rainfall event, a section of track to the summit is hazardous and a large slip has taken out part of the mountain bike track, which is also popular with walkers.
There is risk of further multiple slips and damage if the rain continues.
The rotunda and toilet is still accessible, however we urge residents and users to exercise caution if entering this area.
Signage advising of the closure will be erected onsite soon. Please do not venture into the red zone.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Christmas Parade

The Waitomo District Christmas Parade was held on Friday, 13 December 2019.

The Highland Pipe Band led the way down the street as the pipes rang out to signal to the awaiting families that lined the Main Street. The floats were judged by our favourite boyz of the popular TV show The Block Sam and Ethan.

  • First place Float being – St Joseph
  • Second Place – Creative Kids
  • Third Place – Explorers Early Learning Centre

As usual the most popular float was the Legendary Te Kuiti Santa Float and there were plenty of smiles for the big guy in a red suit as the cheers rung out from the little onlookers.

New comers to the parade this year were Batman and Princess Elza of Enchanted Entertainers, capturing the young onlookers as they provided a story telling time at the foot of our Sir Colin Meads Statue.

The Legendary TK Market was held on the paved area outside Stoked Eatery, it proved popular with locals who took the opportunity to meander, look at the crafts and catch up with one another.

As the year draws to an end the WDC celebrates another full year with it’s amazing communities and we wish all our residents a safe and restful holiday season.
