Weather Watch - High wave warning along coastline

A high wave warning is in place for our coastline this weekend. A strong westerly swell is expected from Saturday 24 January through to Sunday 25 January, with a swell event (high energy waves) and elevated water levels predicted.

This wave event is big, even for the west coast, with forecast swell over 5 metres and maximum wave height over 10 metres possible. The highest risk period is within 1-2 hours of high tide.

The next high tide for the coastline from Marokopa to Mōkau is around 2pm on Saturday. For Sunday, high tide is around 2.50pm.

NZTA traffic management update

26 Jun 2018, 5:03 PM

If you're planning to travel on SH3 tomorrow be aware that there is likely to be minor delays and heavy traffic around Te Kuiti due to the funeral of Koro Wetere.
Stop/Go control will be in place at the intersection of SH39 and SH3 in Otorohanga (marked with a 1 on the map) at approximately 11am to allow the southbound funeral procession to pass through.

There will also be Stop/Go control with a 30km/hr speed restriction at the intersection of Oparure Road and SH3 (marked with a 2 on the map) between 11.30am and 12.30pm.

Then from 2pm funeral traffic will head to Te Kuiti, making a stop at the Te Kuiti Marae, before heading 5km south of Te Kuiti (marked with a 3 on the map) where there will again be Stop/Go control and a 30km/hr speed restriction.
