Repairs to storm damaged roads start next week
27 Mar 2026, 4:01 PM

Work will start next week to restore three roads in the Waitomo District.
The upgrades and repairs to sections of Mangatoa, Manganui and Gribbon Roads are in response to previous storm damage where the roads suffered underslips.
Works will remedy the damages and improve resilience against further damage in future weather events.
Inframax Construction Ltd was awarded the contract.
Works will start on Mangatoa Road on 30 March, weather dependent, and is expected to take around six weeks to complete.
The second site at Manganui Road will start mid-April and will finish around the same time as Mangatoa Road.
During this time there will be some disruption to traffic flows due to the constrained site locations with temporary traffic management in place to allow for the sites to be constructed safely.
There will be a Stop/Stop operation with 10-minute opening every 50 minutes during work hours.
The third site at Gribbon Road is proposed to start late April and the expected duration on site is approximately three weeks. Programmed completion is currently mid-May 2026.
The traffic management for Gribbon Road will be a full road closure with residents access only.
