Weather Watch - High wave warning along coastline

A high wave warning is in place for our coastline this weekend. A strong westerly swell is expected from Saturday 24 January through to Sunday 25 January, with a swell event (high energy waves) and elevated water levels predicted.

This wave event is big, even for the west coast, with forecast swell over 5 metres and maximum wave height over 10 metres possible. The highest risk period is within 1-2 hours of high tide.

The next high tide for the coastline from Marokopa to Mōkau is around 2pm on Saturday. For Sunday, high tide is around 2.50pm.

2020 Waitomo District Christmas Parade

Friday 27 November 2020 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

What's happening at the parade:

  • Santa will be at the Railway Building (by the Sir Colin Meads statue) before and after the parade.  Photos are available for purchase. Click here for all the details

  • 6pm - the parade begins

  • After the parade: head down with the kids to the grass area by the town clock where they can enjoy the 'Have a Go Giant Bubbles Station' which will run straight after the parade for 30 minutes. 
  • Rora St, Sheridan St and King St East will be closed to traffic and parking from 4.30pm to 8pm on the day of the parade.

  • PLEASE Remember: If you are feeling unwell please stay at home.  When you arrive at the event please scan our QR code and make use of the sanitising stations.
