Waitomo District Council maintains accreditation as a Building Consent Authority

15 Aug 2016, 8:49 AM

The International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) audit process was completed recently.

The IANZ review is undertaken every two years and ensures that Waitomo District Council as the local Building Consent Authority (BCA) is compliant with the Building Regulations 2006. The regulations set out the requirements for policies, procedures, and systems to deliver building control functions.

Accreditation as a BCA is essential for WDC to process and issue building consents, complete inspections and undertake all other building functions under the Building Act 2004.

Group Manager Customer Services Helen Beever says the excellent audit result is a reflection of the robust quality control systems and processes in place at WDC.

“To achieve this result is a great outcome for WDC,” says Mrs Beever.

WDC is a member of the Waikato Building Consent Group which comprises of eight Councils in the Waikato Region. Each Council is audited annually by their peers, and all IANZ reports are shared within the Cluster, to support good practice amongst Local Authorities.
