Inframax Construction Ltd has been successful in securing the road maintenance contract for Waitomo District Council for another term.

Valued at $48.2M over five years, the contract includes an annual resealing programme, sealed and unsealed pavement (road) maintenance, unsealed road metalling, drainage renewals and emergency first response.

General Manager Infrastructure Services, Shyamal Ram says the contract is a win-win for both Council and Inframax, which has held the road maintenance contract for the past seven years.

“Inframax are a big part of our community. They are local employers based in the Waitomo district and they have a big emphasis on people and capability. The crews doing an amazing job on our roads and we are pleased to award this important large-scale contract to them again.”

Shyamal says the tender process is exhaustive and rigorous with a range of criteria to consider including price, supplier skills, quality, data collection and support systems.

“Funding priorities always present challenges to Council when it comes to maintaining our levels of service on our road network, and at times we are forced to adapt work programmes accordingly and maintain current standards with less funding in some areas and more in others.

“And coupled with our district being heavily impacted by severe storms events, the past few years have been quite the challenge for our roading department.

“The Inframax team are to be commended for supporting us through that time and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the team again to deliver roading services to the Waitomo community,” says Shyamal.

Inframax Chief Executive Vesta Gribben says the road network of Waitomo is essential for the prosperous economic development of the region and the connectivity of its residents and visitors.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and to have the opportunity to continue partnering with Council to deliver reliable road networks.

“Partnering with district territorial authorities to maintain road networks in rural / regional New Zealand is our specialty and this contract strengthens our position as the market leader in roading services within the King Country region.”

Vesta says Inframax staff share Council’s vision to have the best interests of ratepayers and the community at the heart of service delivery.

“The Inframax whānau is one of local people who know the road network well and our passion and commitment to the Waitomo community can be seen in our work on the ground, our support of local businesses, our support of local not-for-profit organisations and our commitment to developing local talent.”
