Postponement again of official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards

Waitomo District Council, with the support of Ngāti Rōrā, have made a call to POSTPONE the official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards for the second time.This is due to the heavy rain forecast for the rest of the week. The ground will be wet and the weather looks worse for Friday (26 September 2025). It's important to us that this significant occasion is done correctly. We will schedule another blessing to be held later in the year when the weather has improved.

Mokau Jetty closed for repair work

Mokau Jetty will be closed until further notice while urgent repair work is undertaken.

During the Cyclone Dovi storm event in February, debris was swept into the jetty causing some stress on the ramp. Over time, it has progressively gotten worse and is now determined to be a health and safety risk.

Repair work is currently underway, and we ask that people stay away from the area while this is taking place.
