Slip on Te Waitere Road – please drive safe

Council is aware of a significant slip on Te Waitere Road. Currently the road is down to one lane with priority give way traffic control in place. Given there is poor weather forecast towards the end of the week, we encourage those needing to pass through this site to be vigilant and drive safely and to the conditions.

Work is underway to upgrade the aging stormwater system under Ngatai and Duke Streets in Te Kuiti. Waitomo District Council water services manager Andreas Senger says the existing galvansied steel pipe under both streets has deteriorated beyond economical repair and the old concrete pipes under Ngatai Street are also being replaced (pictured below). "The upgrade work provides extra drainage needed to mitigate surface flooding at times of heavy rainfall. There is also a section of stormwater drainage under Hospital Road near Te Kuiti High School that is being replaced with a higher capacity pipe." The works are expected to be completed by mid-July (weather permitting).
