Public notification: Military funeral on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

A forward notice that there will be firing of blank cartridges which produce loud bangs in support of a military funeral sometime between the hours of 1.30pm to 3pm on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

There will be soldiers marching around the town in support of the funeral ceremonial event with weapons, so please do not be alarmed or concerned.

There will also be a road closure at the intersections near the Les Munro Centre in both directions on Sunday 15 March. The closure will be in place at 12.30pm to 1pm. 

Soldier presence in Te Kūiti will be prominent from Saturday afternoon and will increase up to 100+ on the Sunday for the funeral.

Water Supply Update

The water level of the Mokau dam has dropped considerably over the weekend. Therefore Mokau and Awakino communities are now on Water Alert Level 2. WDC urge residents to conserve water now.

Mokau and Awakino communities are on Water Alert Level 2 - Restrictions. 

  • Total ban on domestic sprinklers - only hand held hosing permitted.

  • Restrictions apply to all urban, rural, non-residential and commercial properties.

Te Kuiti, Piopio and Benneydale communities are on Water Alert Level 1. Residents are urged to conserve water use in and around the home.

  • Avoid watering gardens during the day: the ideal time is 6am - 8am and 6pm - 8pm to reduce evaporation.
  • Use a water saving attachment on your hose and do not leave hoses running unattended.
  • Avoid washing paths and driveways, use a broom instead.
  • Avoid re-filling your swimming pool and use a pool cover when not in use.
  • Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth or shaving.
