Mokau water main replacement complete

21 Oct 2016

Waitomo District Council has successfully completed a project to replace approximately 550 metres of the water main that runs underground adjacent to State Highway 3, from the Inframax Yard to Rerenga Street Mokau. This work is the second phase of a staged replacement pipe programme originally scheduled for this coming summer. As a result of the recent failure of the water supply mains, the timing of the replacement works was brought forward.

Asset Group Manager Kobus du Toit says the renewal project went very well and no issues were identified. “All businesses in Mokau were provided with water. We would like to thank the residents and businesses for their patience while we completed this work.”

“WDC continues to invest in core infrastructure to replace old assets at the end of their useful lives.” “We have used good quality, state of the art equipment that will benefit the people who live in and visit our communities now, and for our future generations.” Says Mr du Toit.

Additional shut-off service valves have been installed as part of the work. This allows WDC to isolate sections of the piped reticulation to complete work without interrupting the service to properties located in other parts of the township. WDC also improved the access for the Fire Service by installing additional fire hydrants.
