Leak detection in Maniaiti/Benneydale

Waitomo District Council contractor McIndoe Group are planning to carry out water leak detection in Maniaiti/Benneydale starting this Friday, 19 September 2025.

Leak detection helps identify where there could be faults in the network and can also help determine where water loss is occurring.

The leak detection investigation will occur from 8am to 5pm and although there will be a temporary interruption to water supply, it should not overly disrupt or interfere with normal usage.

We also ask that you please conserve water as much as possible.

Old toilet block to close in Mōkau

5 Dec 2024, 7:23 AM

The old toilet block on the main street of Mōkau will be permanently closed from Friday 13 December 2024.

This closure is part of a planned transition that began with the installation of a modern toilet block in late 2021.

The newer facility continues to serve the public and the local community well, offering a cleaner, more efficient alternative.

Its success has ensured that the needs of residents, visitors and travellers are being met, while allowing for the decommissioning of the old, outdated facility.

General Manager Infrastructure Services, Shyamal Ram says the age and increasing challenges with maintenance was a driving factor in determining its closure.

“We acknowledge the historical significance of the old block but are confident the closure supports the long-term health, safety, and wellbeing of all users.

“Council extends its gratitude to the community and visitors for their understanding and support.”
