Centennial Park grandstand upgrade on track

An upgrade of the grandstand facility at Centennial Park in Te Kūiti is on track to be completed early next month.

Last Year, Waitomo District Council was successful in securing a $250,000 grant from Grassroots Trust specifically for the use of upgrading the ground floor changing rooms and toilets under the grandstand.

Work began in November last year and has progressed steadily over the past few months.

The project complements the recently completed Centennial Park Concept Plan, which aims to strengthen the connection of Centennial Park with
the community by exploring opportunities for further development.

The work is being undertaken by RB Thomas Ltd and includes refurbishing the internal changing rooms and the addition of four toilets, which would only be open for the public during events at the park.

Mayor John Robertson says the project would not have happened without the support of the Grassroots Trust.

“We’re very grateful to have received a grant from Grassroots Trust. It lessens the burden on our ratepayers and goes a long way in helping to achieve our goal of enhancing Centennial Park.”

The public toilets by the current playground at Centennial Park will remain open until further decisions on the development of the park are considered.
