3 Jul 2025, 10:37 AM

It’s almost time to take a stand for your community with Local Elections nominations for Waitomo District Mayor and Councillors opening Friday 4 July.

Waitomo District Council is looking for people who can provide leadership, are not afraid to make the big decisions that will make a difference for the whole district, while also advocating for the interest of the district’s smaller communities.

Those considering stepping up to stand for Mayor or Councillor can find out more about what’s involved on Council’s website ahead of nominations opening.

On the website you will find a Candidate Handbook which covers everything you need to know about standing for Council, as well as candidate nomination forms.

Additionally, WDC is also hosting a candidate information evening on Thursday 10 July, which is a chance for prospective candidates to get information and ask questions, before making their decision to stand.

Chief Executive Ben Smit says being an elected member can be incredibly rewarding but comes with a big responsibility as you will help decide how rates are set, how ratepayers’ money is spent and managing assets worth millions of dollars.
