POSTPONEMENT of Cultural Storyboards opening and blessing

Waitomo District Council, with the support of Ngāti Rōrā, have made a call to POSTPONE the official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards. This is due to areas of the walkway suffering from washouts and flooding from recent weather events. The installation of the storyboards and blessing will be held later in the year, which will allow for the walkway to be repaired and stabilised. We thank you for your understanding.

Roading Updates:

Our roading team is always busy. Here is an update of what our team and contractors have been working on.

Walker Road: is complete.

Te Anga Road and Te Waitere Road: will be fully completed this month.

Te Anga Road (second site): during construction we found some geotechnical surprises under the slip at the start of the project which resulted in a short term road closure for public safety. The team made some tweaks to the design and methodology and finished strong. The result is an impressive mass block wall which will support the road and prevent future slips.

Rangitoto Road: the retaining wall is complete and pavement construction is underway.

Kawhia Harbour Road and Te Waitere Road: the road retreat works has progressed well with the last stages of pavement construction to go. The site team have been appreciative of the local’s friendliness and cooperation. Slip repairs has started this week and will continue through July. The retaining wall construction on Kawhia Harbour Road is underway.

Ramaroa Road and Mapara Road: the scope at Mapara Road is complete, which will help to retain the bridge abutment through future weather events. The Ramaroa Road culvert scour protection work has will be completed soon. The concrete lining of the culvert will be completed in the summer months.
