Postponement again of official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards

Waitomo District Council, with the support of Ngāti Rōrā, have made a call to POSTPONE the official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards for the second time. This is due to the heavy rain forecast for the rest of the week. The ground will be wet and the weather looks worse for Friday (26 September 2025). It's important to us that this significant occasion is done correctly. We will schedule another blessing to be held later in the year when the weather has improved.

We thank you again for your understanding and support.

Te Kūiti Holiday Park to close on 14 July

8 Jul 2025, 12:46 PM

The Te Kūiti Holiday Park on Te Kumi Road in Te Kūiti will officially close on Monday 14 July.

The decision to close the facility was determined at Waitomo District Council’s monthly council meeting on 27 May in an effort to save ratepayer funds.

The facility costs about $45,000 a year to maintain and operate, and with revenue around $13,000, ratepayers are contributing about $30,000 towards the cost.

Over the coming weeks, the following decommissioning activities will take place:

  • Removal of signage
  • Deactivation of Kiwicash access (Penny)
  • Ongoing site decommissioning
  • Removal of waste receptacles
  • Removal of BBQ tables

The gate will remain in place until further notice, and the motorhome dump station will remain operational. Access to the dump station will not be affected by the works.

Planning is underway to relocate the bathroom and kitchen facilities to the Marokopa Holiday Park to replace aging facilities there.

Other assets will also be repurposed elsewhere.
