Public notification: Military funeral on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

A forward notice that there will be firing of blank cartridges which produce loud bangs in support of a military funeral sometime between the hours of 1.30pm to 3pm on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

There will be soldiers marching around the town in support of the funeral ceremonial event with weapons, so please do not be alarmed or concerned.

There will also be a road closure at the intersections near the Les Munro Centre in both directions on Sunday 15 March. The closure will be in place at 12.30pm to 1pm.

Soldier presence in Te Kūiti will be prominent from Saturday afternoon and will increase up to 100+ on the Sunday for the funeral.

Thank you for your understanding.

Full road rehabilitation postponed by NZTA

5 Mar 2025, 5:07 PM

Council’s watermain replacement project along Carroll Street/SH3 in Te Kūiti will soon be completed.

However the subsequent full road rehabilitation by New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) that was scheduled to start immediately after, has been postponed until later in the year.

Unfortunately the timing of the relocation work means it is not suitable for NZTA’s road rehabilitation to proceed at this time without causing significant disruption to the community and this work has been rescheduled for September 2025.

The road rehabilitation involves 8 weeks of work, which would’ve clashed with the NZ Shearing Championships, the Great New Zealand Muster and the upcoming visit of Kuini Ngā Wai Hono i te Pō Paki. NZTA wants to ensure SH3 is free for use for these important events.

Winter is not suitable for road rehab works as chipsealing requires warmer ground temperatures, which is why it is rescheduled for Spring.

NZTA and Waitomo District Council thank the people of Te Kūiti for their co-operation.
