Public notification: Military funeral on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

A forward notice that there will be firing of blank cartridges which produce loud bangs in support of a military funeral sometime between the hours of 1.30pm to 3pm on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

There will be soldiers marching around the town in support of the funeral ceremonial event with weapons, so please do not be alarmed or concerned.

There will also be a road closure at the intersections near the Les Munro Centre in both directions on Sunday 15 March. The closure will be in place at 12.30pm to 1pm.

Soldier presence in Te Kūiti will be prominent from Saturday afternoon and will increase up to 100+ on the Sunday for the funeral.

Thank you for your understanding.

Future of Te Kūiti Holiday Park to be decided

21 May 2025, 12:39 PM

The future of the Te Kūiti Holiday Park on Te Kumi Road will be discussed at the monthly Council meeting next week, and we are interested in your feedback.

Development of the facility was undertaken in 2018 after securing a grant of $200,000 from Central Government. However, over the years usage has been low with revenue of around $13,000 a year.

The facility costs about $45,000 a year to maintain and operate, which means ratepayers contribute about $30,000 towards the cost.

Few visitors take their vehicles into the park, with most choosing to park in free parking areas, including by the Shearing Statue and across from The Warehouse.

Council is looking to close down the Te Kūiti Holiday Park, but keep the waste dump station operating.

There is potential to relocate the bathroom and kitchen facilities to the Marokopa Holiday Park to replace aging facilities there.

This will be a topic of conversation at the Council meeting on Tuesday 27 May and we are seeking your feedback.
