Public notification: Military funeral on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

A forward notice that there will be firing of blank cartridges which produce loud bangs in support of a military funeral sometime between the hours of 1.30pm to 3pm on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

There will be soldiers marching around the town in support of the funeral ceremonial event with weapons, so please do not be alarmed or concerned.

There will also be a road closure at the intersections near the Les Munro Centre in both directions on Sunday 15 March. The closure will be in place at 12.30pm to 1pm. 

Soldier presence in Te Kūiti will be prominent from Saturday afternoon and will increase up to 100+ on the Sunday for the funeral.

Traffic delays due to Rangitoto Road works

Residents and travellers using Rangitoto Road in Te Kūiti can expect road closure delays for the next six weeks.

Construction works started in early May to upgrade sections of the road, in response to previous storm damage.

However, to safely to conduct the works, road closures are necessary.

During weekdays, a section of Rangitoto road will be closed from 9am to 2.45pm, beginning 12 May 2025 through 20 June 2025.

 

Weekday road closure details:

Duration: approx. 6 weeks

20-minute delay from 7am to 9am

Daily Road Closure Time: 9am to 2.45pm

Road closure open times: – 11am to 11.15am and 1pm to 1.15pm.

20-minute delay from 3pm to 6pm.

Location: Around 1 km each side of Tate Rd along Rangitoto Road

 

Inframax Construction Ltd were awarded the contract following a tender process.

Work includes repairing the pavement (road surface), upgrading drainage and constructing a timber retaining wall.

Both sites will be constructed concurrently so there will be a 1km section of road affected by traffic management.

The overall completion for both sites is end of June 2025.
