Te Kūiti Stock Effluent Disposal Facility
The Waikato Region Stock Effluent Disposal Facility Strategy indicated the need for two stock effluent facilities to be built in the Waitomo District.
Waitomo District Council in partnership with NZ Transport Agency and Waikato Regional Council (WRC), constructed a new stock truck effluent disposal facility on Cotter Street Te Kūiti, near the sale yards. The facility was officially opened on 20 March 2014.
The facility design includes a sensor plate located near the exit of the facility which is triggered by the stock truck tyres. A water cleaning device then washes the effluent grill after the truck departs. The cleaning device is only triggered if the stock truck exits in the correct direction (PDF 166 KB). Signs are in place that show the correct way to proceed through the facility.
Waitomo District Council encourages users of this facility to cooperate by entering and exiting according to signage. We also ask that effluent taps be turned on only when the truck is stationery over the effluent grill.
Your support in using the facility correctly, will reduce the incidence of spilled effluent.
