Renewal project underway

24 Apr 2015, 8:00 AM

In early April, WDC commenced the renewal project for the entranceway and upstairs portion of the building located at 28 Taupiri Street, Te Kuiti.

The building houses the Waitomo District Library on the ground floor, and the upper floor will be made available for the relocation of the Te Kuiti Community House Trust - an organisation that offers services to improve community well-being in the District.

One of the ways Council provide community support is via the Trust, and it was identified that their existing premises on Jennings St was no-longer suitable and is in need of extensive work to bring the building up to safety standards.

Council planned for the relocation project in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 Annual Plans, at a cost of $450,000.

The refurbishment work will tidy and refresh the offices and meeting room.  Plans include the provision of an accessible toilet, improvements to the entranceway, creating lift access and upgrading the stairs so they are safer for the public to use.

In February last year, WDC made an application for assistance from the Community Facilities Fund of the Lottery Grants Board, and in June approval was received for funding of $300,805.

At this stage the building programme is scheduled for completion at the end of June this year.

During the upgrade, the Library carpark will be fenced off to ensure the safety of the public and to maintain secure access to the site for the contractor.

We ask our Library customers to please use the car parking spaces on Taupiri Street Te Kuiti.
