Updated Monday 29 May

Due to inclement weather, the planned temporary shutdown of the water supply for Awakino Road area will now take place on Monday 12th June 2017 (weather permitting).

Affected residents will be notified directly in advance of the scheduled work.

Media Release - Monday 22 May 2017

Waitomo District Council will soon commence a project to replace a primary water supply pipe and pump that feeds the Blackman’s Reservoir located near the public rest area on Awakino Road. The aged infrastructure in this part of the network has reached the end of its useful life and is vulnerable to failure, loss of water and supply interruptions.

WDC’s Contractor will begin excavation work in preparation for this project from Monday 22 May 2017.

Asset Group Manager Kobus du Toit says “WDC are required to temporarily shut down the water supply connection to properties located on Awakino Road to disconnect the old water pipe and install new pumps that will service the network more efficiently.”

The temporary water shutdown is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday 30 May 2017 (weather permitting).  Availability of the water supply will be disrupted for approximately five hours as we connect up the new infrastructure to the existing reticulation network.

“We understand that this might be inconvenient, and we ask residents to bear with us during this time. We aim to complete this work promptly.” Says Mr du Toit.

Affected residents will be notified directly in advance of the scheduled work.

For further information or to discuss any concerns about the water supply service, please phone WDC on 0800 932 4357. WDC’s after-hours call centre operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The old cabinet (shown below) will be removed once the pump upgrade has been completed.
