POSTPONEMENT of Cultural Storyboards opening and blessing

Waitomo District Council, with the support of Ngāti Rōrā, have made a call to POSTPONE the official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards. This is due to areas of the walkway suffering from washouts and flooding from recent weather events. The installation of the storyboards and blessing will be held later in the year, which will allow for the walkway to be repaired and stabilised. We thank you for your understanding.

Te Kuiti Water Supply Update

15 Jan 2019, 8:48 AM

We are working on addressing the issues that are currently causing dissatisfaction with the Te Kuiti water supply.

Te Kuiti's water comes from the Mangaokewa Stream. In the summer months, the stream struggles to keep up with demand. We haven’t had enough rain near the stream’s catchment and the river level is low, this and the increase in water temperature due to the hot weather contributes towards the taste and odour issues.

Increased carbon dosing, pre-chlorination treatments and water mains flushing will continue - we ask residents to contact us on 0800 932 4357 so we can gather further information and better assess which areas of our network require mains flushing.

We want to assure residents that the water is treated to the national Drinking Water Standards and does not pose any health risk to the public.
