Make your own products workshop

Waitomo residents can learn how to make their own household and beauty products at a workshop to be held this week in Te Kuiti.

Hosted by Waitomo District Council (WDC) as part of Plastic Free July the workshop will demonstrate how to make eight common cleaning and beauty products.

Parva Zareie, Manager - Waste Minimisation says, “we know there is an increasing interest in reducing household waste, as well as knowing what goes into the products we use. This workshop will tick both these boxes.

“Many plastics cannot be recycled in New Zealand and are filling up our landfills. Simple swaps such as buying in bulk and making your own household products make a big difference to our waste output.”

Presented by Di Millow who operates under ‘The Dairy Farmer’s Daughter’ and owns the Waikato franchise of Making a Kinder Environment (MAKE), attendees will get to sample products and leave with recipes and a kit to make their own moisturiser.

“We’re excited to have Di come to Te Kuiti. Once people see how quick and easy it is to make their own products, as well as the potential to reduce waste and save money I’m sure they’ll be hooked.”

WDC will also host a Waste Free Living seminar in August which will share tips and inspiration for reducing household waste.

Learn to make your own beauty and cleaning products workshop:  Sunday, July 26, Les Munro Centre, Te Kuiti.  Tickets $10 and are limited.
