Slip on Te Waitere Road – please drive safe

Council is aware of a significant slip on Te Waitere Road. Currently the road is down to one lane with priority give way traffic control in place. Given there is poor weather forecast towards the end of the week, we encourage those needing to pass through this site to be vigilant and drive safely and to the conditions.

Local Heroes to be honoured in Waitomo District Citizens Awards

29 Jun 2021, 3:00 PM

A handful of local heroes will be honoured for their contribution and dedication to the Waitomo District.

The Waitomo District Citizens Awards will be held at the Les Munro Centre on Sunday 4 July at 2pm where five residents will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award and one resident will receive the award for Waitomo District Citizen.

The Awards take place on a biennial basis with recipients being selected by Waitomo residents via a formal nomination process.

Manager Community Development Clowdy Ngatai says the awards celebrate and recognise the incredible achievements of individuals, who through their outstanding community spirit and dedication, have made a significant contribution to the Waitomo District.

“Without a doubt our district has some amazing people who work tirelessly for the greater good of our community. And it’s often those people who work quietly behind the scenes without any recognition.

“Waitomo District Council’s Citizens Awards is about celebrating those very people. They are the fabric of our community, and our district is a better place because of their contributions.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award is for individuals who have, over several years, demonstrated an outstanding community spirit, and through their involvement in community projects and initiatives, made a significant difference to their communities.

Recipients of the Citizen’s Award have, over the relevant two years, demonstrated an outstanding community spirit and been involved in projects and initiatives that have made a difference to the Waitomo District.

Family, friends and supporters are welcome to attend the Award celebrations.

Please RSVP to Manager Community Development Clowdy Ngatai if you wish to attend the awards.
