Public notification: Military funeral on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

A forward notice that there will be firing of blank cartridges which produce loud bangs in support of a military funeral sometime between the hours of 1.30pm to 3pm on Sunday in Te Kūiti.

There will be soldiers marching around the town in support of the funeral ceremonial event with weapons, so please do not be alarmed or concerned.

There will also be a road closure at the intersections near the Les Munro Centre in both directions on Sunday 15 March. The closure will be in place at 12.30pm to 1pm. 

Soldier presence in Te Kūiti will be prominent from Saturday afternoon and will increase up to 100+ on the Sunday for the funeral.

Wild weather impacts on local roads

After a weekend of wild weather, some of our local roads have suffered. Please take care if you have to drive along any of the following roads:
⚠️ Mangaotaki Road: a slip has been cleared to the side of the road. Signs are in place and cleanup will happen soon
⚠️ Waitomo Valley Road: a fallen tree has been moved onto the shoulder. Signs are in place and cleanup will happen soon
⚠️ Te Waitere Road: a slip and fallen trees are blocking one lane. Signs are in place and cleanup will happen soon
⚠️ Te Anga Road: minor slips/rocks near Kokakoroa Road. Signs are in place and cleanup will happen soon
⚠️ Aria, Piopio, Waitomo, Te Anga: Flooding on roads. Signs are in place
⚠️ George Street: a fallen tree is blocking the footpath. Cleanup will happen soon
⚠️ Lusk Street: flooding
