Weather Watch - High wave warning along coastline

A high wave warning is in place for our coastline this weekend. A strong westerly swell is expected from Saturday 24 January through to Sunday 25 January, with a swell event (high energy waves) and elevated water levels predicted.

This wave event is big, even for the west coast, with forecast swell over 5 metres and maximum wave height over 10 metres possible. The highest risk period is within 1-2 hours of high tide.

The next high tide for the coastline from Marokopa to Mōkau is around 2pm on Saturday. For Sunday, high tide is around 2.50pm.

Te Ara Tika nearly completed

15 Nov 2021, 8:39 AM

The completion of Te Ara Tika has been a long time coming and we’re nearly there.
Our contractor is adding finishing touches to the bridge structure and completing the landscaping work. That will be followed by a safety check, including a building consent compliance check and sign-off, which is necessary before the bridge can be certified safe for public use. Hopefully that will be completed in the next couple of weeks.
There will be some architectural features added at a later date that we cannot access currently due to COVID restrictions. But that will not affect the timetable for when the bridge will become available for safe public use.
