Weather Watch - High wave warning along coastline

A high wave warning is in place for our coastline this weekend. A strong westerly swell is expected from Saturday 24 January through to Sunday 25 January, with a swell event (high energy waves) and elevated water levels predicted.

This wave event is big, even for the west coast, with forecast swell over 5 metres and maximum wave height over 10 metres possible. The highest risk period is within 1-2 hours of high tide.

The next high tide for the coastline from Marokopa to Mōkau is around 2pm on Saturday. For Sunday, high tide is around 2.50pm.

Building consent process more faster and transparent

5 Mar 2024, 9:00 AM

Waitomo District Council customers are now able to apply for a consent through Objective Build, a new service designed to create consistency, transparency, and quality in building applications.

This new system has been built after interviews with more than 100 builders, architects, designers, and industry professionals across New Zealand to ensure it meets their needs. It improves the ability to reuse information across applications, clearly see the status of an application, action required updates, and manage a consent throughout the lifecycle.

The online platform is the first release of Objective Build, which aims to create a complete consenting system for New Zealand. The platform will connect to seamlessly to backend council systems, allowing New Zealand to work across a single platform. Building and Construction industry professionals will have one account to handle all applications, instead of the multiple accounts they currently have.
