Water Shutdown - Lawrence Street, Te Kūiti 4.30pm

Sometimes accidents happen...
The water supply to Lawrence Street will need to be shutdown for a few hours while contractors repair a broken watermain. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Urgent water shutdown for leak detection in Maniaiti/Benneydale
We have discovered that there is a large leak in the water network in Maniaiti/Benneydale that we need to find and fix, as we are losing a lot of water.
Waitomo District Council contractor McIndoe Group will be shutting down the water in Maniaiti/Benneydale today in order to try locate the leak.
Leak detection helps identify where there could be faults in the network and can also help determine where water loss is occurring.
There will only be a temporary interruption to water supply, and it should not overly disrupt or interfere with normal usage.
Work will include turning off a valve at each street for a few minutes to check for changes in water pressure.
A leak detection device will also be used to listen for leaks on the water mains.
If the leak is detected in the Council-owned network, repairs will be undertaken.
If you experience unclean water flow afterwards, please wait 10 minutes and then run an outside tap for at least five minutes or until water runs clear. This is to avoid any unclean water entering your household system.
We also ask that you please conserve water as much as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Large scale works for Oparure and Fullerton Roads

17 May 2024, 3:43 PM

Waitomo District Council’s Infrastructure Services team has recently awarded three large-scale roading projects for the district.

Commencing late May/early June, work will begin on two sections of Fullerton Road and a section of Oparure Road.

General Manager Infrastructure Services, Shyamal Ram says the winter storm in 2022 caused damage to roads across the district, with Oparure and Fullerton Roads impacted by slips.

“Due to the nature of the damage and ongoing subsidence, engineered designs were required to ensure a long-term solution.

“Along Fullerton Road, 1km from the intersection with Oparure Road had two slip sites that were reinstated as part of the emergency works recovery, however have continued to slowly slump.

“The design solution is 3m deep drainage improvements and reinforced pavement.”

For Oparure Road, the design solution is a timber retaining wall with 6m length piles, and drainage improvements.

Construction works have been awarded to Camex Civil with an estimated completion time of around three months, weather permitting.

Shyamal says he appreciates the patience of the community over the past year with the temporary measures that have been in place at the sites.

“We are pleased that construction will soon be starting, and we appreciate the understanding and patience demonstrated by those affected.”

At times construction works will be completed under stop/go traffic management which will cause minor delays.

We thank the public for their patience during this time so that the construction works can be completed safely.
