Mangarino Road repair completed

7 Oct 2024, 2:09 PM

Mangarino Road in Te Kūiti is open to the public again following an extensive and lengthy rehabilitation works programme.

A section of the road was considerably damaged during a storm event in September 2023 and required significant works to reinstate the road back to two lanes.

Construction started in May this year and included drainage improvements, reconstruction of the slope with an earthfill buttress, and reconstruction of the road pavement.

About 19,000 tonnes of material was used including 8,850 cubic metres of rock to reconstruct the slope.

General Manager Infrastructure Services, Shyamal Ram says contractor Nicholls & Uttinger Civil Limited did an exceptional job.

“The repairs to Mangarino Road was a significant project for Council and we are pleased it has been reinstated to an excellent standard.

“We appreciate the cooperation of those who have been affected by this prolonged road closure and thank them for their patience and understanding.”

Although the slip has been repaired however there is still some minor landscaping works and clean up to happen as well as minor patch repairs further down Mangarino Road in preparation for the scheduled summer reseal programme.
