Water Shutdown - Lawrence Street, Te Kūiti 4.30pm

Sometimes accidents happen...
The water supply to Lawrence Street will need to be shutdown for a few hours while contractors repair a broken watermain. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Urgent water shutdown for leak detection in Maniaiti/Benneydale
We have discovered that there is a large leak in the water network in Maniaiti/Benneydale that we need to find and fix, as we are losing a lot of water.
Waitomo District Council contractor McIndoe Group will be shutting down the water in Maniaiti/Benneydale today in order to try locate the leak.
Leak detection helps identify where there could be faults in the network and can also help determine where water loss is occurring.
There will only be a temporary interruption to water supply, and it should not overly disrupt or interfere with normal usage.
Work will include turning off a valve at each street for a few minutes to check for changes in water pressure.
A leak detection device will also be used to listen for leaks on the water mains.
If the leak is detected in the Council-owned network, repairs will be undertaken.
If you experience unclean water flow afterwards, please wait 10 minutes and then run an outside tap for at least five minutes or until water runs clear. This is to avoid any unclean water entering your household system.
We also ask that you please conserve water as much as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Three waters renewals to start in Te Kūiti

7 May 2025, 12:40 PM

A range of projects to upgrade and replace three waters infrastructure throughout the Waitomo district will soon be underway.

Waitomo District Council’s contractor Schick Civil Construction will next week start removing and replacing existing underground wastewater and aging stormwater lines along Hospital Road in Te Kūiti.

Existing wastewater manholes will also be removed and replaced with new ones.

There will be disruption to residents on Hospital Road as work involves excavation through driveways and/or road frontages. Traffic management will also be in place.

There will also be wastewater pipe renewals on King Street West, and stormwater pipe renewals on Awakino Road. Both these projects are scheduled to start in June.

The scheduled work is part of the annual renewal and upgrade programme. Pipes in poor condition are identified and replaced each year.

General Manager Infrastructure Services, Shyamal Ram says Council’s goal is to improve the quality and efficiency of water services in our district.

“While we understand that this may cause some temporary inconvenience, please be assured that our contractor will take all practical steps to minimise disruption and will reinstate affected areas at the end of each working day.

“We are committed to completing these upgrades efficiently and with as little impact on your daily routine as possible. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated during this time.”
