Waitomo District Council has been named Top New Zealand Council for Customer Experience at the 2025 ALGIM Awards, recognising the outstanding work of its Customer Services team.
The award is based on ALGIM’s national Customer Experience Benchmarking programme, which measures how customers experience councils across phone, email, and web online services. The 2025 benchmarking included 78 councils and 3 council-controlled organisations across Aotearoa, making this a significant national achievement.
The result reflects the consistent, high-quality service delivered by Waitomo District Council’s frontline Customer Services team. Whether customers contact Council by phone, email, or online, the team works to ensure people feel listened to, supported, and provided with clear and accurate information.
This recognition builds on a strong track record for the team. Over the past five years, Waitomo District Council’s Customer Services team has:
• Received the 2020 ALGIM Special Award for customer service delivery during Covid
• Placed in the Top 10 councils nationally on two occasions
• Now achieved first place nationally for customer experience
In addition to the ALGIM award, the Customer Services team also received special recognition from the Department of Internal Affairs for their work on the National Dog Database. The team was acknowledged nationally for maintaining extremely low error rates, supporting accurate and reliable information that dog control officers across the country rely on to do their work effectively.
Waitomo District Council also acknowledges the strong showing from councils across the Waikato region, with Ōtorohanga District Council, Hamilton City Council, Taupō District Council, Waikato Regional Council, and Waipā District Council recognised through recent ALGIM awards. These results reflect a shared commitment across the region to high-quality customer service, trusted systems, and strong public service delivery.
Waitomo District Council congratulates its Customer Services team and regional colleagues for their dedication and professionalism, and for the positive impact their work continues to have for communities across the Waikato and Aotearoa.
