WDC services during the COVID-19 Alert Level 2

Waitomo District Council will continue to provide essential services such as water, wastewater, traffic control and weekly kerbside rubbish and recycling collection service throughout Alert Level 2. Our Visitor Information Centre
i-site and halls will remain closed. The Waitomo District Aquatic Centre is now closed for the season. The following temporary changes to our usual services are effective from Thursday, 14 May 2020, for the duration of the COVID-19 Alert Level 2.

Customer Services:

  • The Queen Street Office is open with reduced opening hours, Monday to Friday from 00am to 3.00pm.
  • We encourage our residents to continue to use the services we have available online during Alert Level By heading to https://www.waitomo. govt.nz/our-services/onlineservices/ you can request services, use online maps, and report issues.

Waitomo District Library

  • The Library will be open Monday to Friday from 10am to A ‘Click and Collect’ option will be available for our customers by way of phoning the Library Team on 07 878-1028 to order books for collection at the Library door.

Kerbside Rubbish Collection Service:

We are operating our normal weekly kerbside rubbish collection of WDC official blue bags. Place your bag on the kerbside by 8am on the day of collection.

  • Te Kuiti’s collection is every
  • Piopio, Mokau, Awakino and the Waitomo ward and Village collection is every
  • The temporary arrangement that we put in place for a weekly kerbside rubbish collection for Maniaiti / Benneydale township will be Rubbish and recycling can be dropped off at the local transfer station. No further kerbside collection service will take place.
  • Official blue bags can be purchased from Te Kuiti New World, SuperValue, Piopio Superette, Whitebait Inn Mokau, and Benneydale Food

Kerbside Recycling Collection Service:

Our normal weekly kerbside recycling service resumes from Thursday 14 May. One green bin per household is the normal provision under the level of service.

  • Continue to place paper and cardboard, flattened and bundled, and place it next to your Green Domestic quantities of cardboard of the same size and volume of your Green Bin will be accepted for recycling.

Place ensure your Green Bin is placed at the kerbside by 8am on the day of collection.

Waste Transfer Stations

We are able to return to normal operation of our Waste Transfer stations with reduced opening hours for rural transfer stations. We will approve access to one vehicle at a time, to allow people to dispose of their rubbish bags, general waste and recycling. The recycling shop remains closed and no landscape supplies are available at this time.

Opening hours and days are as below:

  • Te Kuiti - Normal opening hours, Wednesday to Sunday, 9am – 4pm
  • Piopio Transfer Station - Saturday 8am - 12pm, Sunday 1pm – 5pm, Monday 9am - 1pm, Closed all other times
  • Kinohaku Transfer Station - Open Monday only 9am – 1pm
  • Marokopa Transfer Station - Saturday 8am - 12pm, Sunday 10am – 2pm,

Closed all other times

  • Benneydale Transfer Station - Saturday 8am - 12pm, Sunday 1pm – 5pm,

Closed all other times

  • Awakino Transfer Station - Sunday 12 noon to 4pm

Everyone must follow Ministry of Health guidelines. Keep a 2-metre distance from people at all times and wash your hands often using soap, then dry thoroughly. Stay at home if you are feeling unwell and seek medical attention.

Building Consents, Resource Consents, Animal Control Services, Liquor Licencing and Health Services resume.

Playgrounds and parks/reserves are open to the public. All Waitomo District Public Toilets are open.

Holiday Parks - Holiday Parks will emain closed for the time being as we

develop contact tracing processes.
