Weather Watch - High wave warning along coastline

A high wave warning is in place for our coastline this weekend. A strong westerly swell is expected from Saturday 24 January through to Sunday 25 January, with a swell event (high energy waves) and elevated water levels predicted.

This wave event is big, even for the west coast, with forecast swell over 5 metres and maximum wave height over 10 metres possible. The highest risk period is within 1-2 hours of high tide.

The next high tide for the coastline from Marokopa to Mōkau is around 2pm on Saturday. For Sunday, high tide is around 2.50pm.

Decision on Private Plan Change 1 to the Operative Waitomo District Plan

Waitomo District Council advises that the decision to accept Private Plan Change 1 without modification has been made under delegated authority.

Private Plan Change 1 rezones land located to the east of Sommerville Road, including 56-56A Tammadge Street, 37-41 View Road and 1-11 Terrace Road in Te Kuiti, from a Residential Zone to a Rural Zone under the Operative District Plan.

 

The current operative district plan maps will be amended to remove the residential (yellow) zoning from the site:

The appeal period for the above decision closes at 5.00pm on 26 November 2020. Any appeals must also be lodged with the Environment Court within this time period
