Following on from the emergency surfacing work undertaken on Friday 16 July, please be advised that Downer on behalf of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency will be undertaking works on State Highway 3 (SH3) at Mt. Messenger from 9-13 August. The work will be undertaken from 8.30am-5.30pm on these days. 

It will be a large site with a variety of works going on at any given time.  

For the safety of road users and workers, we’ll need to close the road for periods while we carry out this work. Traffic will be stopped for up to an hour at a time in order to allow crews to undertake the work, with traffic being released regularly to clear queues.  

Traffic will be held at both ends of the 5km site on flat road so as to avoid hill starts for large vehicles. 

Indicative timings for road closures are as below: 

Please note that all traffic will be cleared every hour, no vehicles will queue for more than one closure period. 

In the event of unsuitable weather, works may require more days than planned.
