Postponement again of official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards

Waitomo District Council, with the support of Ngāti Rōrā, have made a call to POSTPONE the official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards for the second time. This is due to the heavy rain forecast for the rest of the week. The ground will be wet and the weather looks worse for Friday (26 September 2025). It's important to us that this significant occasion is done correctly. We will schedule another blessing to be held later in the year when the weather has improved.

We thank you again for your understanding and support.

Water Restrictions in place for Waitomo District

11 Jan 2022, 2:33 PM

Waitomo District is experiencing a period of very warm and dry weather, with a lack of rainfall predicted over the coming weeks.

Water conservation measures are required to reduce demand, with restrictions now in place. We ask residents to be very careful with their water use.

Mokau is now on Water Use Restriction Level 3

We are continuing to monitor the situation. Please take all practical steps to reduce your water usage.

No sprinklers allowed.

Hand-held hosing only.

Don’t use Council water supply to fill or top up your pools (including portable and paddling pools).

Use a broom instead of water to clean hard surfaces such as footpaths and driveways.

Avoid using water to wash windows, buildings and cars.

Te Kuiti, Piopio and Maniaiti/Benneydale water supplies are now on Water Use Restriction Level 2

Reduce non-essential water use.

Use sprinklers on alternate days between 6-8am and 6-8pm (e.g. even street numbers on even days; odd street numbers on odd days).
