Postponement again of official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards

Waitomo District Council, with the support of Ngāti Rōrā, have made a call to POSTPONE the official opening and blessing of the Mangaokewa Walkway Cultural Storyboards for the second time. This is due to the heavy rain forecast for the rest of the week. The ground will be wet and the weather looks worse for Friday (26 September 2025). It's important to us that this significant occasion is done correctly. We will schedule another blessing to be held later in the year when the weather has improved.

We thank you again for your understanding and support.

30 Jun 2022, 2:28 PM

Waitomo District Council’s Community Events Fund supports community events that create opportunities to build and celebrate community pride and for the community to connect and celebrate.

Priority for funding will be given to community organisations that wish to partner with WDC for the delivery of district events, such as the Waitomo District Christmas Parade and the Great NZ Muster.

Consideration will also be given to community-led events or cultural celebrations open to the wider community participation where the event is to take place within the Waitomo District.

Non-profit incorporated organisations (e.g. Incorporated Society, Charitable Trust) are eligible to apply.

A grant agreement between WDC and the successful applicant will be in place.  Conditions of the grant will be outlined in the agreement and will include health and safety requirements.

Calls for Registrations of Interest are open throughout July and August.
