🔴 Severe Thunderstorm Warning - parts of Waitomo District 🔴
Metservice has issued a RED severe thunderstorm warning for part of the Waitomo District.
The thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by torrential rain.
Impact: Torrential rain can cause surface and/or flash flooding about streams, gullies and urban areas, and make driving conditions extremely hazardous.
🔴 Please do not travel if you do not have to, and stay safe and drive to the conditions if you need to travel in this weather.

We are aware that Awakino River is rising quite quickly. If you are travelling along SH3 in the Awakino Gorge, please exercise extreme caution.

Lawrence Street Civil Works

Two sections of Lawrence Street in Te Kūiti will undergo watermain and pavement works, starting Monday 16 January 2023 weather permitting.

The first section of Lawrence Street (between SH30 Intersection and Mangaokewa Stream Bridge, including the Taupiri Street Intersection) will have watermain relocation works carried out. This will involve a traffic management shoulder closure on the Redwood Park side of Lawrence Street. These works are expected to take about a week to complete, weather permitting. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Following the completion of the watermain relocation works, the second section of Lawrence Street will undergo pavement re-construction works. Lawrence Street will be closed and under traffic management. The road closure will include Lawrence Street from SH30 Intersection to the eastern side of Mangaokewa Stream Bridge, Taupiri Street from Lawrence Street to South End Loop, the Taupiri Street Car Park will also be closed. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
