Rates Rebate Scheme
We administer a rates rebate scheme which helps low income ratepayers with their rates account for their homes. If you have a low income and pay the rates on your home, you could receive up to $805 through Central Government's Rates Rebate Scheme. The amount you could be entitled to depends on a combination of your income, the amount of rates you are charged and the number of dependants you have. The threshold for SuperGold card holders has significantly increased for the 25/26 rating year, so it's worth checking if you qualify.
The maximum rates rebate available to a ratepayer for their home on 1 July 2025 is $805.
You can apply for a rebate for the current rating year only.
The rates rebate process and eligibility requirements are managed by the Department of Internal Affairs. We assess and approve rates rebate applications on their behalf.

Check if you're eligible for a rebate
Eligibility and how much you get depends on:
- the total amount of rates you pay
- how many dependants live with you
- your total household income before tax
- the ownership of your property
- your living situation.
The threshold for SuperGold card holders has significantly increased so it's worth checking if you qualify.
