Mōkau Bone Carving Symposium

Friday 07 April 2023 9:00 AM to Monday 10 April 2023 5:00 PM

BONE CARVING AT MŌKAU THIS EASTER, FRIDAY 7 APRIL – MONDAY 10 APRIL

Here’s a great idea for a day trip this Easter. Go South to the Firstgas Mōkau Bone Carving Symposium in the Mōkau Hall and while you are there, go to the pop-up craft market in the rooms adjoining.

The bone carving symposium has gathered momentum over the last 6 years and is now a national event attracting more than 60 carvers from throughout New Zealand. Nowhere else will you see such a large gathering of carvers and it is right at your back door. Come and meet the carvers in a relaxed setting and see them working their magic.

Entry is free and they will have their unique treasures for sale.

Carving will take place from 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday and till noon on Easter Monday. This year’s special guest carver is Stacy Gordine Head bone and stone tutor at Te Puia in Rotorua.

Stacy is one of New Zealand’s most admired bone carvers. Also making guest appearances are Owen Mapp, Steve Myhre and Fumio Noguchi, three of New Zealand’s best carvers.

View mokau bone carving facebook page to get an idea of the carving you will see. Come to Mōkau this Easter and make a day to remember.
