Impounded dogs and stock
This page lists all of the impounded dogs and stock, and includes a picture of the animal. The animal will be listed for 7 days.
Once an impounded dog has been held for 7 days and not claimed by its owner, it then becomes the property of the Waitomo District Council.
If your dog is impounded and it's registration is current, it may be quickly returned to you - provided it hasn't been seized because it has attacked a person or animal.
We only release dogs once all impounding fees and other additional fees (i.e. sustenance) are paid.
Please contact our Customer Services Team if you are interested in becoming the new owner of one of these dogs as they come available.
To report a dog contact us on 0800 932 4357.

Joe Dirt
We are looking for a loving new home for Joe Dirt - or "JD" for short.
Joe Dirt had a really rough start to life and our amazing Animal Control team has been nursing him back to health.
JD is approx. 6-month-old, male Shar-pei cross. He is a real laid-back character, gets along with other dogs, has learnt to sit, and is currently being lead trained.
He has had his first vaccinations, is microchipped, will come currently registered but will need to be desexed in the future.
We prefer a home where he is allowed inside to be a part of the family as he loves human interaction.
If you can provide a super-loving home for JD, please contact us on 0800 932 4357.
