Kerbside Collection for Mōkau/Awakino

Council's solid waste contractor is unable to provide a kerbside collection service to Mōkau and Awakino residents until after 22 May 2026 due to the construction works happening on SH3 Awakino Gorge. We are currently working on a solution and will provide an update when an alternative is confirmed. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

Media Release - Waikato Times

27 Aug 2014, 1:34 PM

Waitomo is to examine the benefits of upgrading nearly 1000 streetlights in the district to LED. Waitomo District Council received a paper on LED street lighting yesterday, though group assets manager Christiaan van Rooyen said it could be a year before council really looks into the upgrade. The anticipated life of an LED lamp is 25-30 years, however this is unproven at present, van Rooyen said.
