The WDC Customer Services and Visitor Hub, Waitomo District Library and Admin Building will be closed on on Friday 6 February for Waitangi Day. All waste transfer stations will also be closed.

Water Alert Level 2 - PIopio
Due to operational issues and the current hot weather, Piopio township will move into Level 2 water restriction from tomorrow - Friday 6 February 2026.
Water conservation measures are required to reduce demand on the water treatment plant. We ask Piopio residents to be mindful of their water use.

Mobile phone recycling

Recycle your unwanted mobile phone at our Queen Street office. We recommend that before donating a phone that you disconnect it from any cloud services, remove and keep your SIM card, leave the battery in the phone, and switch the phone off. Simply place the phone in the collection bin provided.


Reminder to provide feedback to Council

Council would like to remind the Waitomo District community that submissions on the Consultation Document for the 2018-28 Long Term Plan, and the Proposed Solid Waste (asset) Management and Minimisation Plan 2018 incorporating the 2017 Waste Assessment, close 5pm Friday 4 May 2018.

Community Services

The new Marokopa public toilets will be open for public use this month. 

We are currently organising the final installation work which involves connecting and inspecting the drainage, electrical work, reinstatement of the ground area, installing a water tank, filters and outdoor shower.

Alternative toilet facilities are available at the Marokopa Camping Ground.

The Waitomo District Aquatic Centre is now closed for Winter. We will be carrying out renewal work on the facility including repainting of the pool, grandstand and general maintenance. The Aquatic Centre will open for Summer in October 2018.
