Leak detection in Maniaiti/Benneydale

Waitomo District Council contractor McIndoe Group are planning to carry out water leak detection in Maniaiti/Benneydale starting this Friday, 19 September 2025.

Leak detection helps identify where there could be faults in the network and can also help determine where water loss is occurring.

The leak detection investigation will occur from 8am to 5pm and although there will be a temporary interruption to water supply, it should not overly disrupt or interfere with normal usage.

We also ask that you please conserve water as much as possible.

The Mokau Water Supply is now on Water Restriction Level 4

19 Oct 2018, 9:52 AM

The Mokau Water Supply is now on Water Restriction Level 4.

  • A complete ban on any outdoor water use.
  • Essential Use Only: Water can be used for drinking, food preparation, hygiene and sanitary purposes.

Mokau and Awakino residents and businesses connected to the town supply are asked to conserve water wherever possible. We encourage residents and businesses to advise visitors that a water restriction is currently in place.

Waitomo District Council (WDC) has identified a leak in the wall of the raw water storage dam from which water is treated and supplied to Mokau and Awakino communities. The leak has resulted in the loss of a considerable volume of stored raw water.

General Manager Infrastructure Services Kobus du Toit says “WDC is in the process of repairing the structure so that the dam can be refilled as soon as possible, in readiness for the imminent peak summer demand period. In the meantime, water use restrictions are necessary to conserve the remaining storage available in the upper dams.”

Mokau and Awakino residents can be assured that the Water Supply will continue to provide safe, treated water that meets the standards required for drinking water.

Any queries can be made to WDC on 07-878-0800, free phone 0800 932 4357 or email.
