Slip on Te Waitere Road – please drive safe

Council is aware of a significant slip on Te Waitere Road. Currently the road is down to one lane with priority give way traffic control in place. Given there is poor weather forecast towards the end of the week, we encourage those needing to pass through this site to be vigilant and drive safely and to the conditions.

Waitomo Citizen Awards postponed until 2021

29 Sep 2020, 5:00 PM

Waitomo District Council (WDC) has made the decision to postpone this year’s citizen awards due to COVID-19 and the uncertainty around events.

The awards which were due to be held in September will now take place in early 2021.

Established in 2012 the awards honour and acknowledge those people who make Waitomo a great place to live and are usually celebrated every two years.

Helen Beever, GM community services says “our priority is the safety of our community.  It is disappointing that we’ve had to postpone the awards, but we know it’s the right decision.

There are many people in our community that do great things and the awards provide an opportunity to celebrate their achievements.”

Nominations opened in July for this year’s citizen and lifetime achievement awards and would remain open until 1 April 2021, with the event planned for May/June next year
