Roading reseal programme kickstarts this week

13 Feb 2025, 9:05 AM

Waitomo District Council's roading contractors are gearing up start to the annual road resurfacing programme.

The resealing programme, which starts this Friday, will see almost 42km of roads being resealed at 40 different sites.

The resealing is necessary to restore the condition of the sealed road surface of some of the older seal coats, in much the same way that a house needs to be repainted every few years. The average life of a seal coat in our district, is approximately 11 years.

The resealing programme includes urban roads Haines Terrace, Te Kumi Loop, Te Kūiti Road, Duke, Hinerangi, Manawaiti and Rimu Streets in Te Kūiti and Huia Street in Piopio.

Other roads include Fullerton, Kopaki, Kumara, Mangaotaki, Mangarino, Mangatoa, Marokopa, Ngapaenga, Pukerimu, Taharoa, Te Anga, Te Waitere, Troopers, Waimiha, Waitahi, Waitomo Valley, Waitomo and Aria Roads.

The work will be undertaken by Higgins as Inframax Construction Ltd’s sealing subcontractor.
